Scenic Art/Drawing project

There's design, and there's art. Good design is total harmony. There's no better designer than nature - if you look at a branch or a leaf, it's perfect. It's all function. Art is different. It's about emotion.”

- Diane Von Furstenberg

A project to proactively allow a development of drawing styles, to facilitate costume designs and storyboarding. To improve drawing. In relation to the above quote, we as designers combine art with design: this project is about both.

A project spanning Sept 2019 to present.

In Progress
I am partway through recreating two Jack Vettriano paintings (see original references to the right), using the scale-up method. This aims to progress not only my figure drawing, painting and observational skills, but to work on the ability to recreate styles that are not my own, which should help my scenic painting skills.

September 2019
A project undertaken over 4 days, a first experience of gridding up on a large scale. Reference (right) taken from a painting by Piet Peere, with a focus on recreating his brushstrokes and style as accurately as possible within a short timeframe. This painting was then among one of the group chosen to be exhibited in Royal Welsh College's Linbury Gallery, from Jan 2020 to present.
